Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians
By bestowing cultural wisdom through generations, we are able to teach our youth the early ways of the Chumash, learn the traditional language of our people, and educate the public about who we are as a tribe and as individuals. We honor our ancestors by reaching out to our neighbors and caring for our community. There is a term our ancestors used to represent “generosity” – it is ‘amuyich.

• Special Collections (3rd Floor) The William Wyles collection is a major Civil War collection that also includes books about the development of the West. Consult the Civil War subject guide for more information. Some other collections (Pearl Chase, Santa Barbara) may be of interest.
• Map and Imagery Collection (1st Floor North). Collection of historical US maps (especially for colonial US) may be useful in identifying historic sites.
